The Mona Fleasa

This portrait is of one of my own dogs, Vera, the matriarch of the large borzoi brood that lives in my house. Vera and her likeness are both priceless and not for sale.

A sad postscript: Vera the borzoi developed lung cancer and had to be peacefully put to rest since the publication of this website. She now no doubt reigns in Dog Heaven with the same serene equanimity and benevolence with which she ruled this house. Her daughter, the desperate and grasping Nadezhda, is now the alpha female. I have plans to paint Nadezhda as Lady MacBeth. Her son, Boris Goodenough, inherited the perfect borzoi gene from his mother. He will have to be depicted as some sort of saint. Maybe a nice Russian icon with a gold leaf background. Vera is also seen here in work that is underway and in this photo on the bottom of the page. She's out in front, smiling.
