These murals are in the bedroom and bath of a very horse-crazy girl. The bathroom mural is a life-size trompe l'oeil (French for ‘fool the eye’) with painted tiles that mimic the tile work in the shower and floor. Quarterhorse, Paint, and Appaloosa horses cavort on the walls of the two rooms. The rearing black stallion was a thoroughbred racehorse of some repute named Wild Again, whom I had the privilege to meet and photograph. The horses in the bathroom are even more detailed than these soft photos, which were shot in low light, would indicate. I thought that I might spend the rest of my life painting in that room! At least the family that occupies that house is good company and patient. |
