Sunspot

Courtesy Marty Allen, Warner's Tack

Sunspot depicts a thoroughbred racehorse napping in a sunny spot after morning workouts. Her legs are wrapped in the padded bandages with which these valuable animals' legs are kept protected while in their stalls. She is not injured.

This painting was seen on the cover of Equus, a popular horse magazine, and then in that capacity, in the film The Horse Whisperer, with Robert Redford. You can see it briefly when Kristin Scott Thomas throws down a stack of horse magazines while looking for a trainer to rehabilitate her daughter’s mentally and physically maimed horse. My Equus cover is right there on the top!

Sunspot

Marty Allen, who owns the painting, manufactures stable furnishings for the horse industry. When he saw this painting and El Norte, both of stable interiors, it was kismet. He had to have them.
